Progress' New Initiatives, 7 to 9 Percent Staff Reduction Worldwide
Progress Software announced new strategic initiatives, which it claims are to "better position the company for long-term growth, improved profitability, greater competitiveness and improved efficiency across its global business." According to its press release, the new initiatives include the following:
- The refinement of the company’s product portfolio towards core and high-growth opportunities, delivering industry-leading solutions that enable companies to be more operationally responsive.
- An increased investment and expansion, over the next 18 months, of development and administration operations in India, where Progress has run a successful development organization for several years.
- The continued consolidation of offices around the world.

In another news article by Hiawatha Bray on boston.com, the author stated, "Progress Software Corp., a Bedford maker of software to manage business processes, said yesterday that it will cut between 140 and 160 jobs, or 7 to 9 percent of the workforce, as part of a plan to shift more work to India over the next 18 months. Layoffs will come in the company’s third quarter, which ends Aug. 31, and Progress will take a charge of between $11 million and $16 million to cover the cost."
